What we work on

Furnaces: gas, electric and high-efficiency, in houses around Caldwell, Nampa, Middleton and Parma. That narrow list is deliberate. A no-heat furnace is diagnosed by watching it work through its start-up sequence and testing the step where it stops, and the pages on this site are written in that same order.

What we service

  • Gas furnace repair: igniters, flame sensors, pressure switches and gas valves
  • Electric furnace repair: elements, sequencers and limit switches
  • High-efficiency furnace repair: condensate drains, vents and pressure switches
  • Blower motors, control boards and thermostats
  • Furnace replacement where a repair is not worth it

What we do not service

  • Boilers, radiant floor heat and geothermal systems
  • Fireplaces, wood stoves and pellet stoves
  • Air conditioners and evaporative coolers
  • Commercial, industrial and agricultural equipment
  • Duct replacement and whole-house duct redesign

From the call to the repair

  1. Describe what the furnace does when it tries to start. Whether anything happens, whether the burners light and stay lit, whether air comes out, and any smell or noise.
  2. A technician comes out and watches it try to run, then tests the step where it stops rather than guessing from the doorway.
  3. Get the finding and a price before anything is fixed. If replacing the furnace is on the table, have both figures quoted so you can compare them.
  4. For a replacement, find out who applies for the permit and whether the carbon monoxide alarms Idaho requires for permitted work are included.

Ask for the certificate number

This applies whoever you hire.

Idaho requires a state certificate of competency to do heating, ventilation and air conditioning work. The statute makes it unlawful to engage in the business, trade, practice or work of heating, ventilation and air conditioning in the state without one, and the state rules require a contractor's certificate number in its advertising, internet advertising included.

So ask for the Idaho HVAC certificate of competency number: not a business license, not a registration number, the HVAC certificate.
